It's easier than ever to connect workers to job training

The City Council plays a critical role in funding high-quality job training and placement programs for New York workers. Now, it's easier than ever for Council Members to connect their constituents to programs in their neighborhood.

The Consortium for Worker Education has launched a new website which maps 70 job training centers across the five boroughs. These community-based organizations receive funding through CWE’s Jobs to Build On and Worker Service Center programs, which are funded by the City Council.

“Our new site was designed with constituent service in mind, streamlining the process of connecting city residents with quality local service providers,” says John K. McDermott, Director for Strategic Partnership of the Consortium for Worker Education. “CWE has long been proud of our work partnering with the city, state, unions, and local non-profits to build these programs. We look forward to continuing our work to provide these resources to New York City residents and the elected officials who serve them.”

Elected officials and constituents can use the website to find local programs and learn about the services offered by their community organizations.

CWE programs can include job readiness classes, occupation-specific training with certifications, resume and interview help, and job placement assistance. Many providers also have wraparound services to ensure participants have stable housing, child care, and health care to be able to complete the training and succeed in their new careers.

Residents can use the website to apply for childcare subsidies, find immigration services, and learn about community organizing groups in their community.

New York City’s recovery has trailed the rest of the country and is just now approaching pre-pandemic employment levels. With further headwinds on the horizon, New York workers will need help getting hired for in-demand professions and advancing in their careers. High-quality training is now just a click away.
